PennApps XXVII

Privacy Policy

Last updated November 6, 2026

This policy describes how the PennApps organizing team handles information on pennapps.com and in the PennApps XXVII application portal.

Information You Share

When you create an account, our authentication provider, Clerk, processes your sign-in information. If you choose Google sign-in, Google shares your name, email address, profile picture, and a Google account identifier. We request only basic identity information, not access to your Gmail, Drive, or contacts. Google sign-in is optional; you can use email and password instead.

The application collects the answers you provide, including contact and education details, experience, project responses, a resume, team information, and event logistics. Demographic information, dietary restrictions, extra comments, links, and referral email addresses are optional. A resume is required to submit an application. Saved drafts, submitted applications, and application status are linked to your account.

How We Use Information

We use this information to authenticate your account, save your progress, review your application, manage teams and attendance, communicate about PennApps, and plan the event. Google profile information is used for sign-in and account management. We do not sell Google user data, use it for advertising, or share it with sponsors.

Where Information Goes

Clerk manages accounts and sign-in sessions, Airtable stores application records and uploaded resumes, and Vercel hosts the website. These providers process information to deliver those services. Authorized PennApps organizers access application information to operate the event. If you join a team, your name is visible to other members of that team.

The portal does not automatically send applications or resumes to sponsors. Any separate sharing program will explain what is shared and ask for your permission before you participate.

Cookies and Technical Information

Authentication cookies keep you signed in and protect your session. Hosting and authentication services also process technical information such as IP addresses, browser details, and request logs to operate the site, prevent abuse, and diagnose errors. Blocking required cookies may prevent sign-in from working.

Retention and Your Choices

We retain information while it is needed to manage accounts and applications, run PennApps, and resolve support or security issues. You can ask to access, correct, or delete your account and application information by emailing contact@pennapps.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

You can also revoke PennApps' Google access in your Google Account settings. Revoking access stops future Google sign-ins; it does not by itself delete information already saved in your PennApps account or application.

Questions or Changes

Contact the PennApps organizing team at contact@pennapps.com with privacy questions. We will post policy updates here and notify affected users before using Google data for a new purpose that requires their consent.
